Quick action by firefighters who responded to the fire around 10:30 a.m. at 812 Surf Ave., were able to contain the blaze to the first-floor, McGrath said.

A couple of surrounding units received minor smoke and water damage.

All 12 residents of the building were evacuated safely, but four residents from the first floor requested help with lodgings, he added.

McGrath said the fire appears to be accidental but is still under investigation.

No one was injured.
